With over 20 years’ experience, many families rely on Scott through major life decisions. He is highly regarded for his work across property, trusts, and succession planning, and has extensive knowledge of banking, finance, and ownership structures. He has particular expertise in agriculture and kiwifruit property transactions, subdivisions, and developments – but it’s the people behind the deals that matter most to him. Scott has been heavily involved in Zespri’s kiwifruit licence release since 2012.
He understands that no two clients are the same. Every situation brings its own mix of challenges, personalities, and priorities, which is why he avoids one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, he takes a common-sense approach: listening first, understanding what his clients want to achieve, and then helping them get there within the scope of the law. His role isn’t to impress people by explaining legal nuances – it’s to offer reassurance, clarity, and a clear path forward. He’s also a big believer in working collaboratively with his colleagues and other advisors to make sure all the moving parts are working together.
Clients value Scott’s honesty, transparency, and the long-term relationships he builds. They trust him with the details (and sometimes with things they’ve told no one else), because they know he’s got their best interests at heart.
Away from work, Scott co-parents two active boys with his husband, Dane, and their wider modern family. Having played rugby both here in New Zealand and the UK, he’s opted for a slower pace of life. He’s into travel, the gym and general health and wellbeing, surfing, snowboarding, and cheering from the sidelines of his kids’ sports games.
Fun fact, Scott is a piper and has competed at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland with Manawatu Scottish Pipe Band. Although he no longer competes, he can be relied on to get the pipes out at functions and social events.
