Andy is a Special Counsel in CLM’s Corporate & Commercial team and splits his time between advising private clients and local authorities, and acting as General Counsel and Company Secretary for Quayside Holdings Limited – the investment arm of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council. He provides practical, hands-on advice on mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, direct investments, property-related matters, corporate governance, shareholding arrangements, joint ventures, and general commercial advisory work, helping clients navigate complex transactions with confidence.
Before joining CLM in 2023, Andy spent 15 years at Buddle Findlay in Auckland, preceded by a decade working in commercial roles for successful New Zealand SMEs. That mix of in-house business experience and top-tier legal practice gives him a grounded perspective – he understands the practical challenges clients face and provides advice that’s not only legally sound but commercially sensible. He has a particular passion for SMEs and enjoys the process of helping entrepreneurs turn their incredible ideas into reality.
Andy is often seen whizzing between CLM and Quayside’s offices on his e-scooter so he doesn’t waste precious minutes walking. Clients value his sharp commercial acumen, strong interpersonal skills, and meticulous drafting.
Out of hours, Andy is an avid ocean swimmer, long-time paddle boarder, novice surfer, aspiring golfer, and social footballer. He is Vice President of Otumoetai Football Club and enjoys supporting his children, Sam and Olive, in their pursuits. He relishes time spent with his family exploring the Bay of Plenty and has a weakness for good food and great wine.
