Colleen is an experienced member of CLM’s team and advises on all aspects of commercial and corporate law. She has a particular interest in incorporated societies and is currently working with not-for-profit organisations who provide vital services to communities across Aotearoa/New Zealand. Colleen provides practical guidance and clear strategies to help them comply with new legislation which comes into force in April 2026. Under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, all incorporated societies must re-register and Colleen works closely with those involved to help them understand the new rules.

She is also widely regarded as our firm’s go-to person on privacy law and advises clients on privacy-related queries including how to handle requests for information and privacy breaches. Clients value Colleen’s ability to explain their legal obligations, responsibilities and rights clearly and in plain English so they can easily understand the ‘why’ behind various legal processes and what all the implications are.

Prior to retraining in law, Colleen worked across a range of different industries in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, giving her a deeper understanding of how businesses operate in practice. Since completing her law degree in 2014, she has combined her commercial awareness with legal expertise, first at a boutique Auckland firm before then joining CLM in 2016.

Now based in Ōtepoti/Dunedin to be closer to family, Colleen works remotely and maintains close ties with her colleagues and clients by travelling back to Tauranga throughout the year.

Bachelor of Arts (History), University of Canterbury | Bachelor of Laws (First Class Hons), Auckland University of Technology
