As IT Manager, James carries the major responsibility of shaping our firm’s technology landscape to help everyone work smarter, faster and more efficiently. From rolling out major upgrades to CLM’s practice and document management systems to keeping an eye on the latest AI and legal tech developments, James ensures our firm is ready for the future. He takes pride in seeing complex projects unfold smoothly – but is equally happy to replace the batteries in your laptop mouse when they unexpectedly die. No matter the IT issue, James is all over it.
With a 24-year career in IT, plus a decade as a professional musician and educator, James brings a rare mix of technical expertise, creativity and people skills to his role. He believes IT is as much about managing change and building trust as it is about systems and software, and he thrives on helping colleagues embrace new tools while keeping things approachable and entertaining.
Around our office, he’s known for his cool, calm head, a ready laugh, and an almost magical ability to appear whenever there’s morning tea or a shared lunch on offer.
Having previously studied at the Wellington Conservatorium of Music, James remains a passionate musician. He’s built a soundproof room for his drum kit and he and his wife care for an assortment of chickens and ducks on their lifestyle block while regularly pet-sitting dogs for friends and family. James also loves to cook outdoors, experimenting with his BBQ, smoker and wood-fired oven while indulging in wine and tequila (although not at the same time).
