Pooja brings a strong blend of international experience, technical expertise and client-focused precision to our Corporate & Commercial team. She takes care of business acquisitions and sales, entity structuring, corporate transactions, financing and investment arrangements, commercial contracts, general advisory work, regulatory compliance, and matters involving emerging technologies. Pooja turns intricate legal and financial concepts into plain, actionable advice while keeping costs as low as possible and outcomes front of mind.

Originally from Mauritius, Pooja has an impressive academic record and was awarded “top student” at Waikato University for Land Law plus an overall Academic Excellence Award. After receiving a scholarship, she went on to gain a Master of Laws with Distinction from Otago University where her thesis explored the regulation of Artificial Intelligence in the finance sector. She has also worked in anti-money laundering compliance and quality assurance roles with Craigs Investment Partners and First Mortgage Trust, giving her a well-rounded perspective that blends her legal, finance and technology expertise.

Pooja is attentive, reliable and quietly formidable. She is able to switch seamlessly between French, English and Hindi, and sometimes has to remind herself which language to speak in before opening her mouth. She is committed to understanding her clients’ situations fully and tackling any professional challenge head-on, no matter how unfamiliar.

Having moved to New Zealand in 2020, she is proud to share stories about the warmth, vibrancy and multicultural charm of her home country. French is her language of choice at home with her husband, and Pooja enjoys exploring Tauranga’s beaches and coastal tracks in her spare time.
