Mary Hill One of NZ Lawyer's Elite Women for 2024

Every year New Zealand’s top female legal professionals are recognised for their outstanding dedication and ability to lead from the front in NZ Lawyer’s Elite Women list.

We are thrilled to announce that CLM Partner Mary Hill is one of the recipients of this prestigious honour for 2024! This is an incredible achievement and shows how fortunate we are to have such a depth of talent within our firm.

Over the past two decades, Mary has had a profound influence on New Zealand’s legal profession by mentoring women into leadership roles, helping young lawyers to sharpen their litigation skills, and by taking on senior resource management and local government responsibilities.

She is a sought-after litigator in public and environmental law, and holds a Masters of Commercial Law specialising in competition law and intellectual property. Mary has been involved in three Supreme Court proceedings over the past year, each dealing with novel issues relating to Māori rights and interests in resources such as freshwater and the foreshore and seabed.

As a former President of the Resource Management Law Association, she has chaired panels under the RMA’s fast track consenting regime as part of New Zealand’s Covid recovery provisions. She is a designated external officer for protected disclosures under whistleblowing legislation and is a faculty member of the New Zealand Law Society’s Litigation Skills Programme which helps train New Zealand’s next generation of litigators.

There’s no doubt that Mary has a genuine passion for the law and is helping to raise the bar and move the legal industry forward. We warmly congratulate Mary on her Elite Women 2024 achievement.
