Cooney Lees Morgan has promoted Aimee Cox to Senior Solicitor, recognising her strong early-career achievements and the high quality of work she contributes to our litigation team.
Aimee Cox Steps into Senior Solicitor Role
For Aimee, the promotion is both meaningful and motivating. “I’m very stoked and feel very lucky,” she says. “It’s an honour to know that my work is valued, and it gives me a platform to take on more responsibility and keep developing.”
Aimee’s pathway into law has been anything but conventional. After completing her LLB (Hons) and BA at Victoria University of Wellington, she spent nearly two years as a Judge’s Clerk at the Wellington High Court before undertaking a Master of Laws at the University of Cambridge. After a short period working remotely for CLM from Melbourne, she went on to gain criminal litigation experience with the Crown Solicitor’s Office in Wellington, before joining our firm fulltime in October 2025.
“My career trajectory has been non-traditional, but those different experiences have given me some unique perspectives,” she says. “Working with a judge gave me insight into what effective advocacy looks like, while studying overseas gave me a global outlook. And working as a Crown Prosecutor built up my in-court advocacy experience, so I’ve been able to develop my skills in lots of different areas.”
Since joining CLM, Aimee has quickly found her footing in a team environment she describes as both supportive and challenging. “All of the people here are super friendly and supportive. They’re interested in you as a person as well as you producing good quality work. You feel like you’ve got real wrap-around support and the partners and seniors are so willing to help you.
“Working at this firm, I’ve also had some of the most complex and interesting legal issues that I’ve ever had in my legal career. I constantly feel like I’m being challenged but also really supported to grow to address those challenges.”
Aimee sees great value in working for a mid-size regional law firm, where staff have more opportunity to be involved and to do the actual work rather than be delegated minor tasks.
“When I’m fronting up to work each day, I am really excited to be here and getting the opportunity to work on the files that I’m working on. And obviously, when you’re enjoying what you do, then it’s going to be so much easier to succeed.”
She credits her early accomplishments to her core values – caring for others, having a strong work ethic, and living with integrity – alongside her passion for life-long learning and the law.
Looking ahead, Aimee is focused on continuing to build her capability. “In the short term, I just want to keep developing my potential and delivering high-quality, tailored advice to clients.”
Her promotion signals a strong start to what is already shaping up to be a highly promising legal career. Congratulations Aimee!
