Carolyn is one of the most capable and experienced members of CLM’s Corporate & Commercial team, valued for her practical insight, business smarts, legal acumen and ability to deliver results that work for clients.
Having majored in Japanese at university, Carolyn forged her initial career in Tokyo working in resort development before moving onto a role at a financial futures and options exchange in London. She was always interested in the law, so returned home to study and found corporate and commercial law was a natural fit. Carolyn went on to become a Principal at Meredith Connell in Auckland before deciding to swap big-city life for rural Bay of Plenty paradise in 2014.
With 25 years of legal experience, Carolyn now advises clients across a wide spectrum of commercial matters, from drafting and negotiating bespoke domestic and international contracts, to structuring joint ventures and investment syndicates. She has particular expertise in the horticulture sector, helping Kiwi growers and companies sell world-class fresh produce, and also specialises in commercial construction law. Clients rely on her for timely, practical advice and contracts that simply work. CLM’s junior lawyers also benefit from Carolyn’s deep knowledge and down-to-earth manner, as she helps mentor and develop their skills.
Carolyn’s rural lifestyle block also keeps her busy wrangling six cattle, four chickens, two dogs, a cat, plus four horses – including her riding horse ‘Reba’ and two gorgeous miniature horses. Whether she’s negotiating complex contracts or negotiating with a stubborn cow, Carolyn brings focus, practicality and patience to everything she does.
